When I first came to Cadia, my impression was that it was action packed – even though I had no idea what most people were doing! But that didn’t last long. I had fantastic support from the environmental team at Cadia. Wherever I went they looked after me and kept me busy. And they provided me with feedback too.
I’ve had exposure to a lot of different issues including monitoring surface and potable water, air quality and noise. Plus I’ve worked in the greenhouse on stockpile samples to assess seed viability and whether we can use the soil to rehabilitate mines.
A highlight is the wildlife aspect of the work – I’ve helped to rescue injured turtles, galahs and ‘roos. Because of its location, Cadia also works closely with the local farmers and I really like helping them out.
The Vacation Program is a great way to see if you fit in with a company. Personally I find Newcrest is a great place with down-to-earth people, so I was delighted to get selected for the Graduate Program for 2008.
